There is no charge to apply for the PitchFest but all applicants must register for TiECon Canada at a special rate of $99 (the gala dinner is optional and an additional $99).
PitchFest applicants must:

  • Be from the National Capital Region in the start-up phase of development;
  • Have engaged or sold products/services to at least two customers
  • Have generated less than $5 million in revenue since inception.

 Mr. Solon Angel is the 2014 PitchFest winner. The exposure he received at Pitch Fest helped Squanto [now MindBridge] to close an oversubscribed round of seed funding which closed within 24 hours of his victory.

Bharat is a Canada lead at SkyQuest Technologies, a global firm helping Canadian companies commercialize their product and technologies in foreign markets. Bharat has more than 27years of experience in research funding, collaborative research, program management, business management and software development. As the Country Manager for India and Brazil at ISTPCanada, Bharat was accountable for the management of the Canada-India and Canada-Brazil R&D funds. Prior to joining ISTPCanada, he was a Business Development Manager for Ottawa at the Ontario Centers of Excellence (OCE). Bharat has started three start-ups and worked for several leading technologies companies in Canada.


Jasvinder Obhi

President, TiE Ottawa

Jasvinder has worked for both international and entrepreneurial companies (he has assisted over a dozen start-ups as a consultant) in advanced technologies over the last 25 years. His last venture, RocketOwl Inc., was an Ottawa based company that produced leading edge games for learning using social and mobile networks. He is currently Vice President, Product Management at ThinkRF, a leader in real time spectrum analyzers.

As Managing Partner of the GillGroup, he acts as a strategic advisor, mentor/coach, and connector for start-up companies. Parmbrings with him the experience and expertise of guiding the growth and development of numerous start-up companies,from initial planning and fund-raising to businessdevelopment and intellectual property development. Parm currently holds a number ofpatents and believes in the value of intellectual property portfolios for early stagecompanies. Parm is actively involved in the startup and Angel Investment eco-system in various Capacities, and contributes his time to a number of organizations and charities including: Chair Board of Directors, Venture For Canada; Board Member & Chair of the Finance Assistance Committee, Angel Investors Ontario; Charter Member & Board Member, TiE Ottawa; Community Champion, Impact HUB Ottawa; and Board Member, ArtEngine.


Mitul Patel

Technical Analyst, Phreesia

Mitul resolves routine and advanced technical issues related to implementation and deployment of software at Phreesia, the leader in patient intake management. Mitul is a small business enthusiast who has been promoting and supporting entrepreneurship through his involvement with TiECon Canada since its inauguration in 2013. He is also a leadership enthusiast, currently participating in the Mindtrust Fellowship program where he is exploring new avenues to create relevant and long-lasting change in the world/community by re-thinking existing assumptions and increasing his leadership capabilities. Mitul had also served as a business development specialist at Lead to Win, a Carleton incubator which was named as one of the top 10 university business incubators in North America by UBI Global. Mitul is a graduate of Biomedical and Electrical Engineering with a minor in Business from Carleton University.


Amitabh Chaudhary

Business Planning & Management

Amitabh helps technology-focused, R&D-driven companies to be more customer-focused and profit-driven. With extensive experience in the science and technology industry, Amitabh develops and implements strategic, operational and financial plans that builds on the company’s existing capabilities, leverages strengths of its team-members, partners and collaborators to deliver profitable products and services. Amitabh was president of LMI Automotive and, he led corporate planning at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited through its transition to be a privately-operated company. Amitabh holds a BASC (EE) from Waterloo, an MBA from Richard Ivey School of Business, and he is a CPA CMA.


Manu Sharma

Executive Director, Centre for Social Enterprise Development (CSED)

Manu is an Engineer by background, Technology Entrepreneur by choice, and Community Activist at heart. As a technology entrepreneur, Manu spent a good part of the last decade designing and building enterprise applications for some of the most complex business domains including real estate, eCommerce, retail, insurance, hospitality, education and most recent in the realm of social computing. Manu has significant experience in economic development, having conceived, developed and managed many entrepreneurship and leadership advancement initiatives and he recently served as the Entrepreneur-in-Residence with 1125@Carleton, an experimental, collaborative space at Carleton University. With over a decade of leadership experience with a host of youth leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation programs, Manu is a Trustee with Kiva Zip, member of Ontario Centre of Excellence’s College of Reviewers, Charter member with The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), board member of Impact HUB Ottawa, Executive Director of Mindtrust, and a voting member of City of Ottawa’s Property Standards and Licensing Committee. He is a past recipient of Ottawa’s Forty Under 40 award, City’s Immigrant Entrepreneur Award, Startup Canada’s Mentor Rock Star Award, and a proud alumnus of the Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference.


Stephen Fanjoy

Startup Executive, Strategy Consultant

Stephen Fanjoy is a consultant, board advisor, and part-time executive to start-up entrepreneurs specializing in the enterprise software, cybersecurity, and medical device sectors. To-date, Stephen has played a direct, leading role in securing over $10 million in start-up financing and over $50 million in premium-valuation founder exits. Stephen has over two decades of experience in enterprise software, including executive and senior management roles in strategy, product management, marketing, analyst relations, and business development. As a volunteer, Stephen was a founding Director of the Ontario Bioscience Innovation Organization (OBIO) and Co-Chair of the Ottawa Life Sciences Cluster. He is a former Chair of the Ottawa eBusiness Cluster and a former Director of the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Ontario. Stephen is an honours graduate of the Dalhousie University School of Business and a Certified Management Consultant (CMC).


Heruka Kumararatne

Senior Consultant, KPMG

Heruka is currently a Senior Consultant in KPMG's Assurance practice. He's very active in the local community and is currently the Organizer of Product Hunt Ottawa, a hub that brings together a community of entrepreneurs, makers, and product hunters. Additionally he is a member of the World Economic Forums' Global Shapers community, and is also serving as the Canadian Coordinating Ambassador for One Young World, the world's premier youth leadership forum.


Adrian Zahl

Partner, Ridout&Maybee LLP

Adrian Zahl is a partner with the IP law firm Ridout&Maybee LLP. His legal practice focuses on patents, trademarks and intellectual property strategic advice in a range of technological areas including pharmaceuticals, medical devices and others. Adrian represents a wide range of clients ranging from individual inventors to major multinational corporations, with a particular focus on start-ups. Adrian has practiced in the area of intellectual property law for over 30 years.


Joshua Smith

CPA, CA Business Incentives Leader, Welch LLP

Joshua Smith leads the business incentives practice at Welch LLP, a group focused on maximizing cash flows for clients through the use of Scientific Research and Experimental Development, Ontario Interactive Digital Media and other tax credit claims as well as other business incentives. Joshua has helped hundreds of companies across Canada plan and prepare successful SR&ED tax credit claims in industry sectors including software, hardware, manufacturing, design and pharmaceuticals. Joshua’s in depth knowledge of the income tax rules and regulations combined with his SR&ED expertise allows him to provide advice to help companies maximize current and future cash flows from tax credits. In his tenure at Welch Joshua has helped hundreds of companies across Canada in all industry sectors maximize their financial performance through proper planning and optimization. Joshua co-authors the annual CPA Canada Tax Update course, a course designed to keep tax practitioners informed about the latest developments in tax legislation and application. Joshua has also written numerous blogs and articles providing insight into SR&ED, OIDMTC, tax rules and tax planning. Joshua is a board member and treasurer of the Maple Leaf Chapter of the Association of Old Crows, an organization promoting the sharing of new ideas and information and the dissemination of new research and knowledge in the fields of Electronic Warfare and Information Operations throughout Canadian government, industry and academia. As both a board member and Chartered Member of TiE Ottawa, an organization dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship in Ottawa and globally through mentoring, networking, education, incubating and funding programs, Joshua has provided guidance, advice and support to many entrepreneurs.

Mr. Jasvinder Jassal is a Business Solutions Developer, founder and C.E.O  for Netchill Media Group a print & media solutions company specializing in development of business strategies, market research, analytical reporting; reviewing and enhancing standard business practices and process.
Mr. Jassal has over 25 of experience working within the Information Technology / Information Management, Financial and Health organizations to deliver high quality projects dealing with application development, Front-end Interface and online e-business solutions. He is a positive and creative thinker with exceptional skills in solving complex problems and finding viable solutions quickly. He was awarded a plaque for Outstanding Contribution for his excellent work in recovering a US Federal agency system infrastructure during the 2005 Katrina Hurricane. He is considered a go-getter, with a can do attitude who gets things done.

Jaipreet Bindra

Manager, Business Incentives at Ernst & Young

Jaipreet works as a Manager in the Business Incentives group in Ernst &Young. He previously worked in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications group at Deloitte and WORLD Discoveries, the commercialization arm of Western University that is part of technology transfer consortium that consists of 10 leading universities and hospitals in Ontario. He has dual degrees in Computer Engineering and Economics and a MBA in Entrepreneurship and Finance.


Vineet Srivastava

Chief Operating Officer, Cistel Technology

Vineet is currently a Chief Operating Officer at Cistel Technology. Cistel provides a wide range of IT services and employs over 170 employees and associates in Canada and the US. Vineet is a Mechanical Engineer by training, but has spent last 23 years in the Information Technology space. At Nortel, Vineet worked in various roles as an individual contributor and as senior management and won several recognitions, including top-talent. Vineet joined Cistel as Vice President in 2001 with an entrepreneurial hat. The key guiding principles Vineet has adopted in his approach include wealth creation via steady sustainable growth, long-term stability of the business, and profitability.


Petula Pinto

Director, Lending Operations at the Ottawa Community Loan Fund (OCLF)

Petula Pinto has over 15 years of experience in personal and business lending, in for-profit and not-for–profit organizations. She is currently, Director of Lending Operations at the Ottawa Community Loan Fund. In her role, Petula helps Ottawa residents achieve their professional and entrepreneurial goals, thereby increasing their financial independence and economic development for Ottawa. Petulahas post-secondary degrees in Science and Commerce at Carleton University. She has achieved awards for exemplary client service and sales target achievements throughout her career (Ford Summit Award Winner North America 2005-2006-2007). Dipalli Bhatt

Marketing Leader, MindBridge Ai

Dipalli is challenge lover, lifelong learner and extremely driven with business results. She has 15 years of product and corporate marketing experience and has worked with organisations like TD Canada Trust and Disney. She has been recognized with prestigious awards at TD Canada Trust and was nominated to be “30 under 30” marketing professionals to watch out for Disney India. She also completed her Executive MBA at Telfer school (University of Ottawa).


Tuhin Das

Business Operation Manager, D-TA Systems

Tuhin sits on the TiECon Canada Exec Committee since its inception in 2013. He is a leader, skilled networker, and a community giver. Having managed multiple Govt. R&D funds, micro-financing initiatives and currently overseeing global marketing operations for D-TA Systems; he is well positioned to contribute to the committee. Tuhin leads and sits on multiple non-profit boards and he is currently developing a certification program with Carleton in the defense sector.
